Social media
Things like Facebook and Twitter and texting -- are
affecting how we do relationships more and more these days. Benefits abound:
we connect more easily with more people; we
can pull a crowd together
quickly for a common cause (even if it's just
a party!). But cautions also
emerge: unwitting compromises about our privacy; substituting the exchange
of electrons for an actual face-to-face relationship. Losing the human touch
becomes a potential casualty of the digital age.
This
whole area cries out for conversation among community leaders, parents and
children, friends, married couples, businesses, and so on. How can we better
address both the benefits and the cautions of social media?
Friends of the Family seeks to facilitate greater dialogue on this topic.
Our
first public event will occur May 10. Watch for details in this space.
