WORKSHOPS & SEMINARS OFFERED BY FRIENDS OF THE FAMILY:
Marriage Builder Seminar
Presenters: Ken & Mary Himes
informational brochure
The seminar opens with teaching about God's design for marriage from
Genesis, then moves to practical ways to live out that design. These
ways include skills in communication and conflict management, problem
solving, and basic ground rules for the relationship. The facilitators
introduce each skill, model it live or by video, then allow time for
couples to practice, to receive coaching if desired, and to debrief.
(Skills taught are based on the Christian PREP™ approach.) Portions of
the seminar can be accommodated in overnight or weekend couples'
retreats. The complete seminar works best in a one-day or weekend
format. However, since it is modular, it can be taught in sections in
order to fit available time.
Marriage Builder Seminar using the PREP™ Model
Presenters: Ken & Mary Himes
This seminar is for business or community audiences. This seminar
teaches couples practical skills in communication and conflict
management, problem solving, and basic ground rules for the
relationship. The facilitators introduce each skill, model it live or by
video, then allow time for couples to practice, to receive coaching if
desired, and to debrief. (Skills taught are based on the PREP™
approach.)
Practical Principles of Parenting
Presenters: Ken & Mary Himes
This seminar lays out a biblical model for parenting children up to
ages ten based on modeling God's character before our children and
molding it into their lives. Parents learn practical ways to demonstrate
and communicate God's love and justice. The class best fits in 6 to 8
one and one–half hour sessions, but can be streamlined to fit available
time.
Preaching/Teaching on Marriage and Family Issues
Presenter: Ken Himes
Ken Himes is available for Sunday services, Sunday School classes,
men's breakfasts and retreats, couples' retreats, and banquets. The specific
focus of the preaching or teaching can be arranged.
Lay Counseling Skills
Presenter: Ken Himes
Staff will work with area churches to train lay people in a biblical
approach on how to solve their problems, and find solutions. Basic people–helping
skills are also taught. Specific details are worked out in consultation
with the church.
Healthy Relationships for Teens
Presenter: Sara Wright
Teenagers are all about relationships, especially with each other.
Our Healthy Relationships presentation is offered free of charge to
local high schools. Teens will learn the benefits of premarital
counseling and how to really get to know someone before jumping into a
